Snetterton MSV - Racing Green

MotorSport Vision (MSV) operates several motor racing circuits in the UK, plus one in Spain, with another under development in France – which is intended to be the world’s first self-sufficient eco circuit. The MSV group also includes the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, the GB3 and GB4 single-seater championships, the PalmerSport corporate event at Bedford Autodrome, MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR) and MotorSport Vision Trackdays (MSVT).

As the UK’s leading motor racing circuit owner, MSV fully recognises the importance of reducing the environmental impact of our venues and events, where practicable, and maintaining strong relations with the community - while possessing a clear commitment to accessibility and inclusion.

We are pleased to share some examples of this good practice at Snetterton MSV in Norfolk, East Anglia. This is by no means a complete list, and our approach and policies will adapt, expand and evolve over time.

Waste Management

  • Snetterton has partnered with Anglian Recycling, a local waste management company based just 5 miles away, reducing vehicle mileage and offering a state-of-the-art waste facility to maximise recycling performances
  • Snetterton is progressively improving its recycling policy with office paper, cardboard, tyres, metals and oil (cooking and mechanical) already recycled. Snetterton will continue to work towards a full site-wide recycling process, to cover more than 80% of our generated waste, hopefully being in place by the end of 2024
  • Recycling stations were introduced throughout the venue in 2023 as part of the move towards improving our recycling policy
  • In 2021, our Tyrrells restaurant and bar introduced biodegradable packaging to reduce the use of single-use plastics. We use paper straws, offer recyclable wooden cutlery and use only recyclable coffee cups
  • 90% of race meeting tickets are now sent digitally, rather than being printed and posted
  • All printed race programmes produced by us use Forest Stewardship Council-certified paper. Many racing clubs have switched to offering only digital PDF programmes
  • All redundant electrical and computer equipment on site is sent to the group’s head office at Brands Hatch to be recycled
  • On-site spillage treatment is carried out by using absorbent materials to minimise and contain contamination
  • These absorbent materials are themselves made from natural or recycled products and are environmentally friendly
  • At Snetterton, any material excavated during improvement works is often reused on-site instead of being sent to the landfill. For instance, after conducting routine earthworks to track run-offs, any surplus materials were utilised to maintain the accessibility of our infield and outfield access roads for all visitors

Biodiversity

  • Presentation of the venue is very important to us and we pride ourselves on our natural green spaces
  • A tree planting programme exists so that fallen or felled trees are always replaced with new locally sourced trees
  • We have carefully selected specific plots of land on our site for the purpose of wilding. These areas play an important role in providing natural habitats for a diverse range of plant and animal species, and as such, are strictly off-limits to the public

Energy Usage

  • At Snetterton, we have been gradually replacing our regular lights with energy-saving, LED options. We have already upgraded 90% of the site, including the paddock areas and buildings
  • Employees are given clear guidelines and actively encouraged to minimise energy use in their respective work areas
  • MSV has successfully tackled the issue of rising electric costs by introducing a "fair use policy" that is applicable to our general day customers who consume power at our venues. This policy has been highly effective in reducing unnecessary power consumption and ensuring that our customers benefit from a fair and cost-effective service

Accessibility

  • Carers of disabled guests are entitled to free admission to race events at Snetterton (prior arrangement required)
  • Dedicated parking areas within the venue are provided for Blue Badge holders, including trackside viewing areas, with disabled toilet facilities and reserved paddock parking

Travel and Transport

  • For 2023, MSV has introduced the use of Hybrid cars in our vehicle fleet. The BMW range we use across the MSV group now includes hybrid course cars and even fully electric safety cars
  • Given our rural location and lack of local public transport reducing the number of vehicles attending the venue is difficult, however, we do encourage car sharing where possible

Community Relations

  • At Snetterton, we take pride in supporting our local Air Ambulance and raising funds for this asset to our county
  • We work closely with the local emergency services to raise road safety awareness
  • A local resident pass scheme provides those living close to the circuit all year-round free access
  • At Snetterton we prioritise supporting local businesses by using them for our materials and supplies whenever feasible. This includes obtaining all our fresh meat, dairy, and vegetables from nearby sources
